A service goes beyond the flue and looks at the stove itself, door seals, glass, the baffle plate and the collar connecting the stove to the chimney. Worn rope seals let heat and smoke escape, so I check these as a matter of course.
The baffle plate comes out for a proper clean, since soot builds up above it where you can't see. Everything goes back together properly before I leave, and I'll flag anything that needs replacing rather than just cleaning around it.
