Glass, firebox and flue collar cleaned of soot and tar build-up, with the surrounding hearth left spotless.
Glass gets a build-up of tar and soot that a quick wipe won't shift, so I clean it properly inside and out along with the firebox itself. Ash is cleared and taken away, not left in a pile by the hearth.
The flue collar and the first section of pipe get checked as part of the clean, since that's often where deposits gather fastest. Sheets go down over the hearth and nearby furniture before I start and stay down until I'm finished.
