Every sweep starts with dust sheets down over the hearth and surrounding furniture, then a full brush through the flue from the firebox up to the pot. Soot and loose deposits are cleared and bagged, not left for you to deal with.
I check the flue before I start and again once it's swept, looking at how it's drawing and whether there's any sign of cracking, nesting or blockage. You'll get a certificate for your records once the job's done.
