Some flues, particularly those used a lot over winter or fed with damp wood, build up a harder, glazed layer of soot and tar that a standard hand brush struggles to move. For those I use a rotary system with a head matched to the flue size, working it through in passes until the deposits are properly broken down and cleared.
It's a thorough job rather than a quick pass, and I'll keep going until the flue's genuinely clear, not just visibly tidier. As with every sweep, everything that comes down gets bagged up as I go so your hearth and surrounding area are left clean.
